One leading Anglican bishop once asked,
How is it that wherever the apostle Paul went there was either a riot or a revival, but wherever I go they simply serve cucumber sandwiches and tea? One answer may be that it is because the prophetic dimension, so vividly apparent in Paul's ministry, is not consistently present in the lives of many of our bishops, vicars and pastors; for wherever this prophetic gift is present and active, the powers of darkness will be thoroughly shaken and stirred!
Satan's most successful strategy to dilute a ministry is to keep God's ministers so occupied with reading the latest bestsellers, organizing evangelistic campaigns, studying successful methods of church growth, keeping so busy in administration, visitation, social service, sports activities, counselling, putting out fires of opposition and criticism, that his devotional life is starved.
It is important to realize that while we have authority to bind and loose in the name of Jesus, we do not decide of our own what should be bound or what should be loosed. The Greek tense of Jesus' teaching really means: what you bind on earth will have been bound in Heaven, and what you loose on earth will have been loosed in Heaven. This indicates the necessity for a synchronization between earth and Heaven. The normal sequence is Heaven first, then earth. This once again reminds us of the need to hear from God in prayer and to know what He is doing before undertaking any aspect of spiritual warfare.
If our GOAL is Revival, we will be quite unbalanced when it comes. If our goal is God, we will be able to walk with Him calmly and steadfastly through years of waiting and through the joys and victories of a season of refreshing. Christ crucified and risen is not only the Door, and the Way, but the End also. It is our personal relationship to Him which counts more than anything else. Oh, the need for men and women who know their God! The Church of Christ will only arise militant, triumphant, an
exceeding great army, when individuals get rightly related to God.
